Maintenance of bearings

1. Regular inspection


In order to give full play to the bearing and maintain its proper performance for a long time, regular maintenance (regular inspection) must be carried out. It is very important for improving productivity and economy to find faults early and prevent accidents in advance through proper regular inspection.


1.1 cleaning


When the bearing is removed for inspection, first make appearance records by photography and other methods. In addition, confirm the amount of residual lubricant and sample the lubricant before cleaning the bearing.


a. Bearing cleaning is divided into rough cleaning and fine cleaning, and a metal grid can be placed at the bottom of the used container.


b. During rough cleaning, use a brush in the oil to remove the grease or adhesive. At this time, if the bearing is rotated in the oil, pay attention to damage the rolling surface due to foreign matters.


c. During fine washing, slowly rotate the bearing in the oil and proceed carefully.


Generally, the detergent used is neutral diesel oil or kerosene without water, and warm alkaline solution is sometimes used as required. No matter what kind of cleaning agent is used, always filter and keep clean.


After cleaning, apply antirust oil or grease on the bearing immediately.


1.2 inspection and judgment


1.2.1 bearing fault identification method


It is very important for improving productivity and economy to identify or predict the bearing failure in operation without disassembly inspection. The main identification methods are as follows:


a. Recognition by sound


Recognition through sound requires a lot of experience. It must be fully trained to recognize bearing sound and non bearing sound. For this reason, we should try our best to assign special personnel to carry out this work. The sound of the bearing can be clearly heard by sticking the hearing device or the hearing stick on the shell.


b. Identification by operating temperature


This method belongs to the comparative recognition method, which is only used in the situation where the running state is not changed much. For this reason, continuous recording of temperature is necessary. In case of failure, not only the temperature will rise, but also there will be irregular changes.


c. Identification by the state of the lubricant


Sampling and analysis of lubricants are carried out to determine whether foreign matters or metal powders are mixed into the turbidity. This method is especially effective for bearings that cannot be close to observation or large bearings.


1.2.2 bearing inspection


Check the bearings disassembled during the regular maintenance, operation inspection and peripheral parts replacement of the equipment, so as to judge whether they can be used again or whether they are better or worse. Carefully investigate and record the disassembled bearing and appearance. In order to find out and investigate the residual amount of lubricant, clean the bearing well after sampling.


Secondly, check the condition of raceway surface, rolling surface and mating surface as well as the wear condition of cage for damage and abnormality.


To judge whether the bearing can be used again, it should be decided after considering the degree of bearing damage, machine performance, importance, operation conditions, inspection period, etc. According to the inspection results, if the bearing is found to be damaged or abnormal, find out the cause of the damage section and formulate countermeasures. In addition, according to the inspection results, if there are several defects below, the bearing can no longer be used and needs to be replaced.


a. Any one of the inner and outer rings, rolling element and cage has cracks and fragments.


b. Any one of the inner and outer rings and rolling bodies is peeled off.


c. The raceway surface, retaining edge and rolling body are obviously jammed.


d. The cage is seriously worn or the rivets are loose.


e. The raceway surface and rolling body are rusted and scratched.


f. There are obvious indentations and marks on the rolling surface and rolling body.


g. There is creep on the inner diameter surface of inner ring or outer diameter of outer ring.


h. It's very hot and discolored.


i. The sealing ring and dust cover of grease sealed bearing are seriously damaged.


2. Shutdown inspection


It is very important to check the bearing seal regularly to keep the bearing in the best condition. The most favorable inspection time is arranged in the period of regular shutdown inspection. The prior planning and knowing of bearing model and bearing spare parts are usually based on inspection work.


2.1 it is very important to keep the bearings and lubrication clean.


Clean the machine surface before inspection, and then remove the parts around the bearing. The oil seal is a very fragile part, so it needs to be carefully disassembled, do not apply excessive force, and then carefully check the oil seal and its surrounding parts. If the oil seal has shown bad symptoms, it must be replaced, and the bad oil seal will cause bearing damage and strict equipment shutdown.


2.2 check lubricant


Rub between two fingers with a little lubricant. If there is any pollutant, it can be felt, or apply a thin layer of lubricant on the back of the hand, and then check the sealing.


2.3 changing lubricant


After the old oil is drained from the oil lubricated bearing, if possible, refill with fresh oil and let the machine rotate at low speed for several minutes. Make the oil collect residual pollutants as much as possible, and then drain the oil. It is better to filter the oil before use.


The arbor remover used for grease lubricated bearing when replacing grease should avoid any part of the bearing with cotton material connecting angle, because these residual fibers may wedge between the rolling elements and cause damage, especially for the application of small bearings.


2.4 cover exposed bearings


When checking the bearings, never expose them to pollutants or moisture. If the work is interrupted, the machine shall be covered with oil paper plastic sheet or similar materials.
